Unwanted Icons

Post by BobH »

At the bottom of my screen is a row of icons. I have always referred to it as the System Tray, or is it the Taskbar? In any case in Windows 11 there are 3 icons that are taking up space that I would prefer to use for other things.

Obviously, I need to keep the Window and Search icons but the other 3 are not useful to me. Right clicking does not give me an option to delete them as is the case with all the other icons in this bar. Is there some other way to get rid of them and get the space back?

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

What happens if you right-click the unwanted icon(s) and select "Unpin from taskbar" ?

It is the Taskbar.
You can NOT remove the blue Start button.
To remove the Search button: right-click an empty part of the Taskbar, and select Taskbar Settings from the context menu.
Click the drop-down arrow to the right of Search and select Hide.

You circled two buttons. What is the third one you want to delete?

:whisper: I think Bob indicated that he "needs to keep the Window and Search icons". On first reading, I also misunderstood and I wondered why he wanted to get rid of the "Start" button.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make a confusing post.

I tried right clicking to get the means to delete those icons and had no success.

I found a way to delete all but one of the unwanted icons. I think it is the Desktop icon. When I click it I get a bunch of windows showing web pages I have open, I think.

Thanks for the help.

So what method did you use to delete these icons?

If I could remember, I'd tell you, John; but I've slept more than twice since then. IIRC it involved using Settings > System > Personalization > Taskbar. I followed a link I found by continuing to follow search results.

Go to Settings | Personalization | Taskbar or right click on the Taskbar and select "Taskbar settings".
